The major international, professional organization in the academic study of religion. My official responsibilities include: filling and organizing the steering committee, vetting paper and panel proposals for the annual meeting, creating and scheduling conference sessions, running the business meeting, negotiating with other AAR units for so-sponsored sessions, reporting to administration, and conducting last year’s, 5-year self-evaluation of the Group, which took a great deal of effort and time. This effort was rewarded in the successful reauthorization of our unit. Informally, I serve as a link between our unit and the Society for the Anthropology of Religion, the sub-unit of the American Anthropological Association, of which I am also an active member.
