Recruited CMU students and Lansing Area Aphasia Support Group Members to join a team to develop and deliver a 2-hour training six times to all 120 employees of the Ingham County Sheriff’s Department to advocate for aphasia awareness, provide skills in communicating with adults with acquired communication disorders, and foster community between first responders and adults living with aphasia and dysarthria. Estimated over 500+ hours of volunteer time for this project worth $14,144.00 of volunteer time. CMU student completed an independent study related to this project and this work was presented at a national and state conference.
