Description
Elected member, service on committee to revise departmental bylaws. This committee met regularly (weekly or every 2 weeks) and was called upon (on short notice) to convene in an offer to address additional comments by the administration. Dr. Carrick has helped to revise and rewrite departmental by-laws, particularly those around promotion and tenure (standards, voting). The committee fielded suggestions from the faculty on topics ranging from standards for joint appointment to voting procedures for RTP matters and other departmental decisions, and dedicated much time to debating what were appropriate standards to govern and gauge productivity. The work of this committee was particularly important given the changes in departmental appointments for faculty release from teaching (and related research expectations). In particularly, Dr Carrick took the initiative to conduct, complete, and present findings to the department for two original analyses for promotion standards. First, he conducted an analysis regarding reviewing the procedures employed at other comparable universities (Mid-American Conference) to carry out external review of RTP applications.
