Description
Drove to/from Mt Pleasant and Mackinaw. Spent 3 hours with librarian. Conducted inventory of historical collections, reviewed building environment, her processes, challenges re preserving and making accessible historical collections for public research. Wrote and edited a report of the collections, library with recommendations to help her apply for a MSHRAB Saving MI History grant in future. She has a very large collection of historical materials so it was a long report. (12 hours spent on writing, editing report, finding resources). Site visited located government records nobody knew existed in Mackinaw CIty. This helps the State Archives. I learned about her collections and concerns and will continue to advise, provide support, and answer questions. The city, surrounding townships for whom she stores records, the librarian, historic collections and researchers all benefit from historic collections being better preserved and made accessible.
