Through a brief writing prompt and small group dialogue, we will reflect on your experiences with “emergency remote learning” in the spring of 2020, the pandemic school year of 2019-20, and your first month on campus this fall. In addition to sharing our personal experiences, we will examine issues of equity and access that have been placed in stark relief as millions of students – many of whom are children of color – were forced to move their learning online. Based on current events, both around the world and right in Mt. Pleasant, this conversation at the beginning of the semester will be one that provides us with an opportunity to connect and plan for action (for both ourselves and students in our local community) in what promises to be a(nother) school year unlike any other.
