3D home designer: A method for real estate development using WebGL and 3D printing technologies

Abstract

The real estate industry constitutes nearly 2/3rds of the US economy. Custom homes make up a tiny fraction of that market, but those homeowners are passionate, knowledgeable, and involved. 3D printing is a rapidly evolving technology that has changed the way manufacturing is performed. The recent increase in real estate demand, coupled with emerging technologies provides an opportunity for new products to shake up the market and change the way custom homes are built. In this paper, we present the functionalities, features, data design, and accessibility needed of 3D home design software. Our method provides a fun, fresh, and intuitive way for homeowners to evaluate custom home designs. 3D Home Designer empowers anyone with access to the internet to evaluate a home design -or create their own- without needing specialized knowledge or to install expensive CAD software.
