Abstract

This study answers the call for teacher preparation programs to begin strongly emphasizing technological skills, even as the COVID-19 pandemic has heightened the urgency to integrate and improve virtual teaching and learning. Methods included pre- and post-surveys assessing TPACK as well as qualitative coding of class artifacts and journal entries. Results indicate that teacher candidates significantly increased their awareness of, appreciation for, and grasp of technological knowledge and its relationship to both content and pedagogy. These findings, which also identify critical areas for future research, are significant for anyone involved in teacher preparation programs, online instruction, literacy instruction, or mixed methods research.
