Abstract

Web site usability appears to be receiving growing recognition in the literature. In this study the authors compare the web sites of Fortune 500 and INC. 500 companies based on 11 usability measures. The findings show that while Fortune 500 companies performed better than INC. 500 companies on most usability measures, this tendency was not consistent across all measures. The results suggest that for most usability measures, a substantial gap exists between the recommended guidelines of usability experts and current company web site practices.
