Abstract

A proposed ISO Standard specifies tolerances on longitudinal-wave velocity measurements made on IIW-type calibration blocks. These specifications conflict with current ASTM standards for velocity measurements. We evaluate the tolerances of the proposed ISO standard by measuring the longitudinal-wave velocities on a series of blocks, discuss the uncertainties in the measurements, and evaluate the practicality of the proposed standard.
