Abstract

Hemoglobin SC (HbSC) disease is the second most common inherited disorder of hemoglobin, in which there is a coinheritance of mutated b globin genes resulting in hemoglobin S and hemoglobin C.1 HbSC is less severe than the homozygous HbSS disease but some complications can be equally severe. Acute myocardial ischemia and infarction have been reported on rare occasions in children with HbSS disease. However, this complication is not reported in children with HbSC disease. We report one such case of acute myocardial ischemia in an adolescent with HbSC disease, in association with acute chest syndrome.
