Amebic abscess of the liver

Abstract

Although the general incidence of amebiasis is high, the incidence of abscess is relatively low in most parts of India. However, along the west coast of India the incidence of amebic abscess of the liver is very high. Experience with 72 cases during the past six years is reviewed. Diagnosis not difficult when the classic symptoms of pain, fever, and tender right upper abdominal mass are present. The authors review other symptoms and discuss treatment and possible complications.
