Abstract

The goal of this research project is to analyse the manifestation of caring behaviours in early childhood teachers and students. Thirty-two early childhood education major pre-service teachers served as observers. For data collection they used checklists previously prepared by the classroom instructor and kept a journal with anecdotal observations. Time sampling was employed as a technique of data collection; each student spent 30 hours in the assigned classroom (K-3). This study analyses which caring behaviours of in-service and pre-service teachers were the most frequent and which were the least, and stresses the importance of being a role model and developing caring in children.
