Abstract
The design and implementation of an online introductory geology laboratory at the University of Louisiana at Monroe are discussed, including curriculum, materials, student assessments and delivery of instruction. Results are presented of a pilot study comparing student outcomes of both an online section and a traditional, face-to-face (F2F) section. The practical applications for online courses in the geosciences are discussed, as well as recommendations for considering and implementing online laboratory instruction.
