Research output: Other contribution

Abstract

This lecture explored the intersections between late eighteenth-century gothic fiction and representations or bandits, brigands, and banditti in newspapers of the same period. The lecture developed the claim that Gothic fiction and aesthetics contributed to our understanding of criminality, particularly the"foreign" or "immigrant" criminal or bandit. Because of a recently published article, I was invited by the University of Salerno to give this lecture and contribute an essay to a book collection, which will be published in Italian by an Italian press (Viella) in 2022.
