Abstract

Many organizations are moving toward learns and models of collaborative work. However, the success these efforts has varied. One detriment to effective teamwork results from failing to understand and apply fundamental principles of effective collaboration. This paper discusses seven principles of effective teamwork - sharing a common vision and expectations, establishing the right climate, enlarging the pool of available meaning, adhering to fundamentals of good meeting management, working efficiently, requiring accountability, and improving continuously - suggesting ways professional communicators can apply the principles in their own work.
