Constraint-based three-dimensional kinematic analysis

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to introduce the constraint-based approach as an alternative to the analytical approach for three-dimensional kinematic analysis. It proves to be more effective and efficient in dealing with a rigid body in general motion. The emphasis is on determining velocities and accelerations on a two-dimensional plane for a mechanism involved in three-dimensional motion. Its graphical nature and ease to manipulate at great speed are ideal for evaluating the effect of dimension changes on the design of a mechanism based on the attained kinematic analysis results.
