Abstract

In view of the dissemination of large-scale international assessments and the new sense of direction in the field of Comparative Education, we envisage conducting comparative research in the area of mathematics curricula. We emphasize that such comparative curricular investigations must be based on consistent curricular theories that subsidize the researcher's analysis of social, economic, cultural, political and educational determinants. We also emphasize the need for such studies to reflect advances and analytical tools of comparative education. We emphasize the rupture of the paradigms of the area with its positivist past, fact still ignored by some comparative investigations developed by researchers of related areas, such as Mathematics Education.
