Abstract

The Dictionary of Literary Biography (known as the DLB) began in 1978 and has become the world’s most comprehensive literary reference series in English. Library Journal has referred to it as the most important reference series in literary biography ever published. A DLB volume usually includes some 30 to 40 biographical and career summary essays or entries, ranging in length from 3,000 to 10,000 words, for a total of approximately 200,000 words per volume, not including illustrations. My work as editor for this project entails creating, shaping, and editing over 70 entries. Volume 1 went to press in August 2021 and will appear in print as well as be published online later the same year (2021)
