Abstract

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) software started taking off in the early 1990s. It required IT departments and workers to adjust to new realities in their relationship with business partners. But the authors of this article argue that business and IT leaders have not kept up with this transition in roles. Has a great opportunity been lost? The authors take a critical look at the history of ERP systems and discuss changes they see coming over the next few years.
