Abstract

Low voltage power line communication has two main application fields, one is automatic meter reading system using power line carrier and the other is high speed connection with Internet. According to the channel characteristics of power line and different requirements to low-speed and high-speed transmission of informations, the authors proposed that the Time Division-Spread Spectrum (TD-CDMA) is suitable for remote meter reading system with low data transmission rate, but special attention should be paid to the selection of proper carrier frequency and the pseudo-random sequence in the spread spectrum, the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is suitable for high speed connection with Internet in order to weaken the effects of power line on transmitted signal, such as high noise level and strong attenuation, etc.
