Abstract
This self-study provides readers with an in-depth description of my process of writing a state history textbook. In the article I discuss how my theoretical perspective of critical theory impacted how I wrote the text. I also discuss six goals I developed for writing my textbook based on the critiques I found in the literature, along with a self-evaluation of how well I met these goals.
