Help! I Can’t See the Music Through the Exercises! Gestalt Theory and String Pedagogy.

Research output: Contribution to conferenceAbstractpeer-review

Abstract

Gestalt Theory states that "the whole is more than the sum of its parts". By the middle of the 20th century, gestalt theory was prominent in the field of education and influenced many well-known string pedagogues. Gestalt pedagogy includes proceeding from the whole to parts and helping students to understand the parts within the context of the whole. This session will take a fresh look at gestalt theory and provide practical ways we can apply it to our string pedagogy.
