Light emission from cellular polypropylene ferroelectrets under high electric fields and its correlation with piezoelectricity

Abstract

The transient light emission from cellular polypropylene ferroelectrets subjected to high electric poling fields, both in high vacuum and at atmospheric pressure, was quantitatively measured and correlated with the piezoelectric d33 coefficient. The spectrum shows strong emission from the second positive system of molecular nitrogen and the first negative system of N 2+.
