Abstract

The objective of this article is to present the historical facts that precede the creation of the Federal Network of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education (Rede Federal de Educação Profissional, Científica e Tecnológica - RFEPCT). For this end we present the historical events in the first four-hundred years of the history of Brazil which had an impact in the creation of the Schools for Apprentice Craftsmen (Escolas de Aprendizes Artífices) in 1909 – a historical milestone of the institutionalization of Professional Education in Brazil. The study was outlined as a qualitative research of phenomenological nature, in which the data was collected and organized from a review of the specialized literature and historical documents (legislation). Emphasis will be given to mathematics curricula, with the objective of contributing to the study of mathematics education in this type of institution. This analysis is important for presenting historical fragments with the aim of preserving and rescuing elements of the memory of the Brazilian Professional Education.
