Abstract
The objective of this article is to characterize elements of the evolution of Professional
Education in Brazil, in the period between the creation of the Schools for Apprentice Craftsmen
(1909) and the Capanema Reform (1940s and 50s). For this end we analyse social and
pedagogical elements of the aforementioned educational reforms. The historical period in question
was important in the creation of the present Federal Network of Professional, Scientific, and
Technological Education. The study was qualitative in nature and done by a review of the
specialized literature and historical documents (legislations). The importance of this analysis lies in
the preservation or restauration of elements of the memory of Brazilian Professional Education.
