Abstract
Musil's novel Der Mann ohne Eigenschaften offers an ontology of the present that precludes a hermeneutics of the present. However, his apprpriation of the Romantic negotiation of literature as completion of philosophy offers theoretic possibilities for generating understanding of modernity in the absence of foundational discourses.
