New tools for mass customization: 2D/3D body mapping

Research output: Contribution to specialist publicationArticle

In a university research project, it explores a variety of design issues that interface with the human body using a 3D body scanner and a thermal camera. The goals of the project include the creation of a database containing thermal profiles and body scan; body mapping process development; and data mining tools. The Human Solution's body scanner used for this project has four red lasers at orthogonal angles to each other. Mapping thermal information to the 3D body topography can be used to guide the development of a garment designed to specifically handle heat and moisture at the skin surface. The maps development will enable designers in facilitating heat exchange by convective, conductive, radiative, and evaporative mechanisms.
