Abstract

This case highlights a 64 year old man with moderate Broca's aphasia, flaccid dysarthria, and oral and limb apraxia, secondary to stroke. When speech-language therapy began, he reported interest in supplementing oral communication with technology and social media. He expressed an interest in producing longer utterances and increasing the ease of retrieval with functional communication phrase production. He was supported in creating various social media accounts (e.g., Facebook, Messenger, Pinterest). He has used Pinterest to organize thoughts around themes, enhance communication structure, and make more social connections with individuals who share similar interests and have shared experiences. Because of this success with Pinterest, he gave a demonstration at his Aphasia Support Group. SCRIPT training was used in to prepare his presentation.
