Abstract

The aim of this chapter is to help professionals understand the importance of assessing screen media use by their patients. A brief review of the recent research on media use and its effects will be provided. Clarification will be provided to help clinicians distinguish between normative versus problematic use of screen media during childhood. Lastly, readers will be provided with tools to screen for problematic media use, as well as will receive guidance on how to prevent and address problematic media use.
