Race is a Political Construct Made Real in Practice to Reinforce Existing Power Relations

Research output: Contribution to conferencePoster

Abstract

In the context of police shootings of young Black men, the great salience of race - despite its biologically fictive nature - in the US must be addressed. The discussion, however, cannot just focus on the social construction of race but must address the political and economic reality of both personal prejudice and structural racism. In the latter realm, the overlap between race and gender and race, gender and poverty cannot be avoided.
