Abstract

After making major investments in SCM talent development, companies cannot allow top supply chain talent to languish in non-challenging positions or defect to more enticing opportunities. Instead, compelling supply chain career paths are needed to stretch the capabilities and foster the retention of supply chain professionals. To prepare this next generation of leaders, supply chain executives must adopt a strategic talent management process that encompasses the essential elements highlighted in Module 3: The Advance Process. (An online survey link was distributed via email in August 2012 to SCM and HR professionals. Over the following four weeks, 211 SCM and HR professionals completed the questionnaire which addressed career paths, turnover and retention, and succession planning, among other talent advancement topics.)
