Abstract

A revolution is occurring in the way companies buy information technology. Today, the latest trend is to rent software that is delivered over the Internet. Software rental firms are popping up like fast food restaurants. And the prices and convenience are irresistible. But will you find it a piece of cake? Or will you instead wind up in the lobster pot—where it's easy to enter, difficult to live, and painful to escape from?
