Abstract
Polyarylene ether nitriles have been synthesized previously in both academic and industrial laboratories and represent an interesting structural variation. The pendant nitrile group is of some interest, since it may promote adhesion with various polymeric or even metallic substrates via dipolar specific interactions. The group also represents a potential crosslinking site. This paper reports the synthesis via nucleophilic aromatic substitution and various physical characteristics of poly(arylene ether) nitriles.
