Synthesis and characterization of soluble polyimide homo- and copolymers

Abstract

Soluble polyimides can be obtained via a solution imidization procedure. A variety of soluble polyimide homo- and copolymers of high molecular weight have been synthesized which exhibit high glass transition temperatures, good mechanical properties and excellent thermal stability. Polyimides containing alkylated aromatic diamines show both increased solubility and higher glass transition temperatures. The high glass transition temperatures and solubilities of these polyimides make them useful candidates for coatings, electronic materials, membranes and structural adhesive applications.
