Abstract

As our studies with tetramethyl bisphenol A polymers proceeded, we became interested in photocrosslinking possibilities. These preliminary studies are reported in this preprint. The following conclusions are drawn: (i) It is necessary to have either pendant benzylic methyl groups or aliphatic methyl groups and benzophenone units present in the polymer backbone to have a facile U. V. crosslinkable polymer of this type. (ii) In the absence of benzophenone unit in the main chain facile crosslinking of these polymer chains is not feasible. (iii) Such a facile crosslinking behavior may be of interest in electronic materials.
