Abstract

This interactive presentation illuminates how to prepare teachers to disrupt the discipline gap by implementing culturally synchronous and sustaining positioning strategies to reinforce positive student behavior in secondary classrooms. Specifically, this presentation will showcase how teacher candidates’ examination of authentic case studies—representations of real classroom practice—can catalyze learning around cultural conceptions of authority, implicit bias, culturally synchronous discipline, and strategies for using language effectively.
