Abstract
Conference canceled due to COVID

Professionals working with individuals living with aphasia hold valuable insight into how to support people impacted by aphasia in living meaningful lives. This project used template analysis to analyze 43 narratives of speech-language pathologists, professors, music therapists and other professionals in outreach and rehabilitation programs from the National Aphasia Association’s Aphasia Threads Project. Prevalent themes from existing literature (Brown et al. 2012) were applied to the narratives to determine similarities. Results identified eight main themes within the professionals’ narratives which included influences of SLP services, education/advocacy, communication, persona lattributes, meaningful relationships, acceptance/embracement of aphasia, and autonomy/independence. Identification of themes allows for growth in services provided by professionals in supporting people with aphasia and their families.
