Abstract

Nearly half of the world lives on less than $2,000 per year (about $5.50 per day). Yet the world’s poorest market segment collectively purchases about $6.5 trillion worth of goods and services annually. This large market, but low-income segment serves as a base tier of the global income pyramid. This essay introduces and connects the base of the pyramid with international business.
