Abstract

Biodiversity provides many societal benefits by supporting and maintaining ecosystem functions as well as producing goods and services that are essential for human well-being. Remote sensing is an important tool for the detection, assessment, and monitoring of biodiversity. This chapter provides an overview of the value of biodiversity and the remote sensing of biodiversity from global to local scales.
