Abstract
Immigration to the United States has been increasing since the 1960s, and the foreign-born population of the country—and its classrooms—is larger than ever. This presentation analyzes the complicated phenomenon of immigrant children’s development and education. Immigrant children must navigate multiple cultures. Contexts and expectations for behavior vary by culture, which makes normal childhood development, education, and socialization that much more difficult for immigrant children. This presentation examines the unique situations that cultural diversity creates in the classroom
