Abstract

Conference canceled due to COVID

Aphasia is an acquired communication disorder that affects an individual’s ability to produce and comprehend language. Aphasia not only affects the person who has it, but also impacts the family and caregivers who support the person who has aphasia. The project analyzed 43 online narratives submitted by caregivers through the National Aphasia Association’s Aphasia Threads Project. A template analysis was used to link content in Aphasia Threads narratives to existing themes from the literature on caregivers’ perspectives on living successfully with aphasia. Clinical implications will be shared on how practitioners can learn from caregivers what supports are needed for both caregivers and people with aphasia in rehabilitation.
